The department of “Melioration, hydraulics and water supply" was established in 1998 th, which was headed by associate professor M.M. Mirsalakhov until 2009th. In 2009 th, the disciplines taught at the department were transferred to the department of “Environmental engineering and forestry", and since 2015th, in connection with the admission of students to the specialty “Engineering of land reclamation and water management”, was established the department of “Land reclamation and hydraulic structures”.
Scientific works carried out at the department: under the guidance of one of the scientists of the department, professor V.P. Smirnov-Loginov, the first map of Azerbaijan was compiled, under the guidance of associate professor A.V.Shafibekov developed the problem of chemical properties of soil and increasing its fertility, during the work of associate professor B.M.Agayev as head of the department, research works were aimed at studying the physical and chemical properties of soils, under the leadership of M.A.Agamirov, the problem of rational use of land resources in the republic was developed, under the leadership of academician M.I. Jafarov, the phosphate problem of Azerbaijani lands was solved. In recent years, under the leadership of the head of the department, associate professor M.M. Mirsalakhov, research works are continuing to solve the problem of regulating the reclamation regimes of irrigated lands of the Kura-Araz lowland of Azerbaijan. As a result of the research work, a monograph was written.
The department has connections with the relevant specialties of foreign countries.
In 2019th, the department participated in the implementation of an international project through the International Organization for Migration of the United Nations in connection with the development of Qanat systems in Azerbaijan. In this regard, the “Qanat Research Information Center”was established at the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University. The project manager is the head of the department, professor of ADAU Mirnaib Mirkoja Mirsalakhov.
Currently, the department is headed by associate professor, professor of ADAU, PhD in agronomy Mirnaib Mirkoja Mirsalakhov.
The department employs 9 faculty members, including 2 PhD and associate professors (including one ADAU professor), 1 senior teacher, 2 senior teachers, 4 assistants.
