The department was organized in 1937 under the name "Repair work", and in 1939 it began to operate under the name "Operation and repair of the machine and tractor fleet". Until 1941, the department was headed by mechanical engineer I.A. Gudkov.
During this period, the department consisted of 4 teachers without academic degrees. In 1936, Mammad Nuriyev went to Moscow for postgraduate studies, after defending his PhD thesis, in October 1939, as the first candidate of sciences, he began working as an assistant to the department, and in 1941 he was appointed head of the department.
In 1950, the department "Operation of the machine and tractor fleet" was renamed "Repair of machinery and technology of metals", in 1990 in "Repair of machinery" and in connection with the introduction of the specialty "Technology of mechanical engineering" the name of the department later "Technology of mechanical engineering and repair of machinery", continued its activities under the name "Agricultural engineering, standardization and certification", and since 2011 – under the title "Machine engineering and standardization".
Previously, the department was headed by: Gudkov I.A., prof. Nuriev M.M., assoc. Huseynov I.M., assoc. Obed'kov F.P., assoc. Aliev A.B., assoc. J.A.Mammadov, assoc. Hajiyev F.H., prof. Abbasov Z.M.
Currently, in order to solve the problem in the direction of "Justification of the use of innovative technologies, technical means and ICT for the production, transportation, processing and storage of products in agriculture", "technological features, vibration refinement of parts of complex-profile parts of agricultural machinery with granular media from natural materials" is carried out under the guidance of the head of the department, Associate Professor N..K.Ismailova. Many textbooks and teaching aids have been published on the subjects taught at the department.
The training workshop, which is considered the main material and technical base of the department, was completely renovated and equipped with special devices and equipment by order of the former Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov.
